Configuration of column width in List views

In the fields sets configuration there is an option to define how many “number of parts” to be allocated for visualization. It seems entering a number there to have no effect on column width in the interface. Any idea why?

This is Account Display. Description field has number of parts 3.

Could you post what you try to achieve? Any screenshot would be welcome
